Privacy Policy

EACH TIME YOU ACCESS THE WIKIMEDIAN WEBSITE, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND AND ACCEPT THIS PRIVACY POLICY AS PART OF THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS THAT ARE INCLUDED AND INCORPORATED, BY REFERENCE INTO THE TERMS OF USE AGREEMENT. IF YOU SUBMIT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION TO THIS SITE, YOU AGREE THAT SUCH INFORMATION CAN BE USED IN VARIOUS WAYS DESCRIBED HEREIN. YOUR PRIVACY IS IMPORTANT AND WE TAKE THIS RESPONSIBILITY SERIOUSLY. This notice describes our Privacy Policy. Our privacy policy is designed to advise you about how we collect, use, and protect the personal information you provide. By visiting this site, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

  1. Wikimedian distinguishes between personal information and personal financial information. Personal information includes information such as your name, your date of birth, your place of birth, your race and national origin, your email address, your IP address, or your telephone number, what products you buy on the internet as well as any and all pictures and comments you post on political or social media platforms or blogs, your net worth or information about your income. All of this information can be collected, compiled and made available to other Wikimedian members as well as businesses and governmental customers for research or marketing purposes. Should any user or member object to Wikimedian use of such personal information, he/she should not enter their data or information on the Wikimedian site. By using the Wikimedian search website, users/members are agreeing to the terms set forth herein and hereby waive any and all rights to object to the Wikimedian collection or use of the user/members personal information. Personal financial information is defined as a member or user’s Social Security Number, Medicare Number, credit card number, bank account number or other account numbers, which can be used to make payment for Wikimedian financial services. Wikimedian will only use such information for payment of Wikimedian services and will not disclose or sell any member/user’s personal financial information to any third party. We will take all necessary security measures to protect the confidentiality of your personal financial information. In addition, our business practices are reviewed periodically for compliance with policies and procedures governing the security and confidentiality of this information. Our business practices limit employee access to confidential information and limit the use and disclosure of such information to authorized persons.
  2. The information we collect is used to conduct and administer our business activities, which is to accept, compile, collect and provide knowledge, data and information generally useful to consumers, businesses and governmental agencies. Information is collected and compiled and may be shared with our users, business or governmental customers and to us, and others who are performing research and development.
  3. What Information is collected?

(a) We collect any and all information you access while on our site, or that you store with us in any other way. You can choose not to provide certain information, but then you may not be able to get full access and take full advantage of our services and features. When you visit any website, you disclose certain information, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address and the time of your visit. This site, like many other sites, records this basic information about visits to our site.

(b) “Cookies” are pieces of information that are transferred to your computer from a web server. Most browsers are set up to accept cookies, but you can change your settings to have your browser notify you when you receive a new cookie or refuse to accept cookies. The Wikimedian browser, like many browsers, is set up to accept cookies that are transferred to your computer from any web server.

(c) Wikimedian Inc. collects all data that you submit on Wikimedian site, including your name, your IP address, your age, your email address, information about your web searches, information about your purchases on the internet, your data and information collections, the products you are interested in, the number of users that are interested in your product or service, the information you share with others through social media web sites. Wikimedian also collects information that you collect from third parties if you interact with us through social media or networking platforms that may include pictures of you and comments, which you have made on any social media or networking platform. Wikimedian may also collect and use information about you on public record sites such as your date of birth, your ancestry, or your family. Wikimedian makes this information part of its own database. Wikimedian makes every effort to protect all personal information about your personal financial information and does not make any personal information available to third parties without your permission. All other information you provide, however, other than your personal financial information becomes part of Wikimedian database. Your access to some services and content is password protected. We advise that you do not disclose your password to anyone. In addition, we recommend you sign out of password-protected services at the end of your session.

Cookies are small files, which are stored on a user’s computer. They are designed to hold a modest amount of data specific to a particular client and website and can be accessed either by the web server or the client computer. This allows the server to deliver a page tailored to a particular user, or the page itself can contain some script which is aware of the data in the cookie and so is able to carry information from one visit to the website or related site to the next. To check whether your browser is configured to allow cookies, visit the Cookie checker. This page will attempt to create a cookie and report on whether or not it succeeded. Wikimedian may use cookies. To prevent Wikimedian from using cookies, there are settings on your computer or security program to prevent the enabling of cookies and to delete cookies. Most browsers have a configuration screen, which allows the user to see what cookies have been stored on the computer, and optionally to delete them. (Note that it is not possible for a webpage to view cookies set by other sites, as this would represent a privacy and security problem). Each cookie is effectively a small lookup table containing pairs of key and data values. Once the cookie has been read by the code on the server or client computer, the data can be retrieved and used to customize the web page appropriately. If the user has elected to disable cookies then the write operation will fail, and subsequent sites, which rely on the cookie will either have to take a default action or prompt the user to re-enter the information that would have been stored in the cookie. Cookies are a convenient way to carry information from one session on a website to another, or between sessions on related websites, without having to burden a server machine with massive amounts of data storage. Storing the data on the server without using cookies would also be problematic because it would be difficult to retrieve a particular user’s information without requiring a login on each visit to the website. If there is a large amount of information to store, then a cookie can simply be used as a means to identify a given user so that further related information can be looked up on a server-side database. Subsequently when the site is revisited the server will read the cookie to find the username, and then retrieve all the user’s information from the database without it having to be re-entered.

Wikimedian shall not release a user/member’s username or email address in combination with a password or security question and answer that would permit access to an online account. Users who access external websites using Wikimedian technology do so at their own risk. Wikimedian is not responsible for security breaches that occur as a result of third-party website actions. By using our website, you consent to the collection and use of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. Users/members can request access to all your personally identifiable information by sending an e-mail to legal@ Wikimedian.com.
  17. Wikimedian shall disclose a breach of the security of the Wikimedian security system following discovery or notification of the breach in the security of the data to a resident of California whose unencrypted personal information was, or is reasonably believed to have been, acquired by an unauthorized person. The disclosure shall be made in the most expedient time possible and without unreasonable delay, consistent with the legitimate needs of law enforcement, and shall take any measures necessary to determine the scope of the breach and restore the reasonable integrity of the data system. Wikimedian shall also notify the member or user of a breach of the security of the data immediately following discovery, if the personal information was, or is reasonably believed to have been, acquired by an unauthorized person.
  18. California Civil Code Section 1798.83 mandates that if Wikimedian Inc. has, within the immediately preceding calendar year, disclosed personal information that corresponds to any of the categories of personal information set forth in that section to third parties where Wikimedian  knows or reasonably should know that the third parties used the personal information for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes, that business shall, after the receipt of a written or electronic mail request, or, if the business chooses to receive requests by toll-free telephone or facsimile numbers, a telephone or facsimile request from the customer, Wikimedian shall provide all of the following information to the customer free of charge:
  19. A written or electronic mail stating a list of the categories set forth in paragraph (6) of subdivision (e) that correspond to the personal information disclosed by the business to third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes during the immediately preceding calendar year, and
  20. A written or electronic mail listing the names and addresses of all of the third parties that received personal information from the business for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes during the preceding calendar year and, if the nature of the third parties’ business cannot reasonably be determined from the third parties’ name, examples of the products or services marketed, if known to the business, sufficient to give the customer a reasonable indication of the nature of the third parties’ business.
  21. Wikimedian has taken steps to protect personal financial information and any information we collect about its members so as to protect its user members from fraud and unauthorized use of personal financial information. No data or security measures can provide a 100% guarantee against security risks or breaches and any member/user’s use of this site signifies that the member/user accepts the associated security risks.
  22. Wikimedian as well as other websites to which Wikimedian is linked, include embedded advertising material that is served from a third-party site, and it is possible for such adverts to store a cookie for that third-party site, containing information fed to it from the containing site – such information might include the name of the site, particular products being viewed, pages visited, etc. When the user later visits another site containing a similar embedded advert from the same third-party site, the advertiser will be able to read the cookie and use it to determine some information about the user’s browsing history. This enables publishers to serve adverts targeted at a user’s interests, so in theory having a greater chance of being relevant to the user. However, many people see such ‘tracking cookies’ as an invasion of privacy since they allow an advertiser to build up profiles of users without their consent or knowledge.
  23. Pixel Tags and GIFs (also called web beacons, or pixels) are small blocks of code on a webpage that allow websites to do things like read and place cookies. The resulting connection can include information such as the person’s IP address, the time the person viewed the pixel and the type of browser being used. Many social media websites use these devices to allow the site to read any existing cookies or also place a new cookie on your browser or device. Wikimedian search may use pixel tags to customize your experience and learn about how people use your products and services. For example, Wikimedian can use pixel tags to see that a user is using a certain browser which contained an ad and bought a product from that advertiser. This helps Wikimedian show advertisers that the ads they run on Wikimedian or other web pages are effective. Wikimedian may also use embedded scripts, which are code designed to collect information about how visitors interact with our website.
  24. This site has been developed and is maintained in conformance with the Federal Children’s Internet Protection Act (“CIPA”) (See 20 U.S.C. § 9134(f), 47 U.S.C. § 254(h), (l); 47 C.F.R. § 54.520) (implementing FCC regulation)]. All elementary and secondary schools as well as public libraries are advised to undertake specified internet safety measures to block the ability of minors to obtain internet access to this site as it is not designed to be viewed by children under the age of 18. By this notice, Wikimedian intends to prevent access by minors to inappropriate matter on the internet, promote the safety and security of minors when using e-mail, chat rooms, and other forms of electronic communications, to prevent unauthorized access to unlawful activities by minors online, to prevent the unsafe and unauthorized online disclosure, use, and dissemination of personal information regarding minors, and to implement measures designed to restrict minors’ access to harmful material. BY USING AND ACCESSING THIS SITE, THE USER/MEMBER IS REPRESENTING THAT HE OR SHE IS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER. WHEN USING WIKIMEDIAN SEARCH, YOU AGREE THAT UNAUTHORIZED USE BY A MINOR CAN BE TERMINATED AND BLOCKED AT THE DISCRETION OF WIKIMEDIAN.
  25. The Wikimedian site may contain links to other sites, which may not be controlled by Wikimedian. Wikimedian is not responsible for the practices, policies or information practices or security guarantees of third party websites and Wikimedian encourages user/members to read their privacy policies as well. This website is accessible to persons throughout the United States and the world. The data protection and privacy laws differ from state to state and from country to country. Wikimedian policies and practices are intended to conform to California State law as well as the applicable federal statutes. Wikimedian respects The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) which is a United States copyright law that implements two 1996 treaties of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
